Mr.
Desmond conceived, founded and became President of Consumer Health Services,
Inc. (800-DOCTORS), a health care information services
company providing services for mainstream physicians, dentists, and
hospitals (1982). The Company pioneered a sophisticated proprietary
patient-doctor matching database system and was the first to utilize electronic
media for physician marketing. The concepts/services were recognized and
utilized by the industry leaders Humana and HCA propelling the
Company’s rapid growth. The Company was able to attract a consortium consisting
of Morgan Stanley, T. Rowe Price, Citicorp et al. Mr. Desmond led the
company from start-up to sale of his interest to the consortium, at which
time it was the largest company of its kind in the nation, processing 1.2
million responses/year from its service brands.
Further, he served as President of Venturian Corp. (1996) a public (NASDAQ)
company with two operating subsidiaries: 1) an Internet software developer,
reseller, distributor, and consultancy, (introducing the Cybercall® brand),
and 2) a defense components manufacturer/worldwide distributor.
Additionally, (1986-1996) he founded and was president of an international
travel marketing and tour operation company taking the firm from start-up to
national brand recognition to final product acquisition by American Express, the world’s largest travel
company.
(1997-1999) Mr. Desmond accepted a charge from Community Financial Services,
Inc. a retail financial services company with 75 locations nationwide, to
position the Company for a public offering (securing a large regional
underwriter to manage a $30 million IPO) and formulated the Company’s roll-up
strategy (Vice President, Acquisitions and Business Development), attracting
Friedman Billings Ramsey as the principal investment banker.
Most recently Mr. Desmond served as CEO of NRG Tech, an Engineering
R&D firm developing proprietary technology. He restructured the six-year old firm
and took the firm to profitability for the first time in first year. He
conceived and developed an unprecedented technology licensing and pricing
strategy that increased shareholder value from negative to current pre-financing
valuation of $20 million by industry underwriter and arranged private placement
financing to commercialize the technology.
Mr.
Desmond earned his B.A. (Business and Philosophy) from the University of
Colorado in 1982.
